New Calvary Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan, organized in 1949, is seeking a Senior Pastor who is called by God. The Senior Pastor must be a spiritual and administrative leader of the congregation. We are currently accepting applications for this position. Local Michigan candidates are preferred. This is a bi-vocational position, with a starting salary of $48,000.
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
- Pastoral/ministerial experience of five (5) or more years preferred
- Preaching experience of five (5) or more years preferred
- Counseling experience of five (5) or more years preferred
- Administrative experience of three (3) years or more preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least three (3) years of study in a Theological Seminary
- An ordained and licensed minister
- Biblical knowledge and belief in prayer
- Clear understanding of the Baptist Church Doctrine
- Effectively communicate God’s Word through well-prepared sermons based in textual scripture
- Strong leadership skills to grow church membership
- A gifted teacher who enables persons to learn and understand spiritual truths
- Ability to work with and lead Deacons, Trustees and all Ministries of the Church
- Develop relationships within the congregation that promote compassion and love for all demographics within the church
Principal Pastoral Duties:
- Preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ
- Actively participate and provide a spiritual vision to increase attendance in Church School, Bible Study, Prayer meeting, Evangelism and Community Outreach
- Design and implement plans to educate and involve new members in ministries of the
church - Clear vision for the future of the church
- Establish educational and other programs for the development of the children, youth, seniors and adults of the church
- Officiate weddings, funerals and baby dedications
- Administer the Ordinance of the Lord’s Supper
- Support and commit to the Church’s Mission Statement and By-laws
- Conduct Quarterly Business meetings
- Meet regularly with Deacons and Trustees
- Meet monthly, or as needed, with the representative of the Music Ministry and/or Church Musician
